Now that you have had your fabulous new LA Hair extensions fitted you will want to keep them looking great. Follow these aftercare instructions to ensure your new extensions will always look and feel fabulous.
Please wash hair before having hair extensions applied. If hair is dry or normal, you can wash the day before having hair extensions applied. If hair is greasy please wash your hair on the morning before application. Please DO NOT use conditioner on the hair when washing before application.
When you have had your hair extensions fitted DO NOT wash your hair for the first 3 to 5 days to allow your scalp to settle.
Itching or a little tenderness may be felt after having hair extensions applied, this is due to a foreign body, i.e. hair, weaved braids etc being present in the head that was not there before or naturally there. This will subside as time goes by or with the first couple of washes.
Wash your hair extensions once or twice a week only. If you need to cleanse your scalp use dry shampoo. You can wash the top area if this becomes greasy as the hair extensions will not be applied to the crown area.
Moisturise every other day with serum. The hair does not receive your natural oils so you need to add the moisture. If you do not moisturise your hair extensions they will become dry and brittle leading to breakage and split ends. Use only a small amount of products listed to avoid saturating the hair and making it limp and greasy.
Always use a good clarifying shampoo and conditioner.
LA Hair sell hair extension shampoos, conditioners, serums and vitamin sprays, specifically formulated for hair extensions. If you would rather purchase these products ask the technician.
Always brush out all knots before you wash your hair, swim or sleep. Start at the bottom and work your way up slowly using a hair extension brush or wide toothed comb.
Make sure you wash in between the braids to keep your scalp clean and free of bacteria. Also make sure to dry the braids very well to prevent them from smelling
Braid your hair and use a soft bobble at night to keep your hair extensions neatly in a ponytail. This will prevent your hair from tangling through tossing and turning during sleep.
Always shampoo and condition after swimming in the sea or pool, chlorine can dry your hair out just like the salt in the sea water. Make sure hair is washed thoroughly after this activity.
Go back to your technician every 4 to 6 weeks for maintenance visits; this will help with the longevity. Hair extensions should not be worn longer than a three month period!! Longer wearing will result in matting and tangling.
Do not bleach, dye, perm or chemically straighten your hair extensions, they have already been processed and may be damaged if processed again.
When blow drying your hair, add a little serum to the wet hair. This will make the wide toothed comb, brush or hair dryer comb attachment glide easily through the hair and give beautiful bounce
Always use a heat protection spray when straightening or blow drying hair this will create a protective barrier against the heat.
When blow drying hair extensions please remember that it will take longer to dry because there is extra hair, you will also notice the hair feels heavier when wet.
NEVER go to bed with your hair extensions wet, this will cause matting and tangling.
Don't brush harshly and tug at the extensions, as this can loosen and damage the connection which holds them to your hair. Harsh treatment will also put strain on the natural hair root. A tangle teezer brush or hair extension brush or wide toothed comb are recommended to use on your hair extensions
Most importantly always have your hair extensions removed by a professional hair extension technician. They have been trained in this art and know the correct removal procedure; it is worth the extra cost to avoid damage to your natural hair.
Hair extensions are fun, fashionable and sexy and your hair is your beauty so enjoy!!
